The Swiss rower quartet defense the European title

The lightweight men's four defended in extremely difficult water conditions his European title from the previous year sovereign.

Neither the rough Betzsee nor the Olympic silver medalist from Great Britain could defend the title of Simon Niepmann (Seeclub Zürich/Basler Ruderclub), Lucas Tramèr (Club d'Aviron Vésenaz/Basler Ruderclub), Mario Gyr (See- Club Luzern) und Simon Schürch (Seeclub Sursee). However, the British made the Swiss crew to defend the title not simple and started better in the race. In the windshield of a small island in half distance the quartet entered a spurt and overtook the British and took the lead routinely to the finish. "It was an extremely challenging race. We are happy that we make it victorious and could defend our title." For Simon Niepmann and Lucas Tramèr the European title is already the fourth in series.

The two double sculls with Nico Stahlberg and Roman Röösli respectively in the lightweight class with Frédérique Rol and Patricia Merz reach both the strong 4th places. Thus, the Swiss Rowing Federation met its objective of a medal and two Top 6 ranks clearly.
